This workshop provides an introspective space for educators to reflect on their approaches to discipline, interaction, and relationship-building with Black boys in their classrooms. Together, we will explore how cultural identities shape experiences in education and examine how classroom environments can better support student success and well-being. Participants will gain insights into how culturally responsive practices can affect educational journeys and learn strategies to create more inclusive, engaging, and affirming spaces for all students. Educators will leave with actionable ideas to immediately implement in their classrooms, fostering environments where students from diverse backgrounds can thrive.
Objectives: 1.) Explore the rich cultural identities and lived experiences that students of color bring into the classroom. 2.) Understand how classroom practices and structures impact the experiences of students from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. 3.) Develop personalized strategies to enhance interactions and relationships with students of color in your school community. Participants are encouraged to bring a tablet or other internet connected device. (Wifi preferred as cell signal can be spotty.)
