This session is designed to equip 3rd through 6th grade teachers with practical, easy-to-implement strategies to support English Language Learners (ELLs) in their classrooms. Focusing on quick wins that can be applied immediately, this session will help classroom teachers foster a more inclusive and effective learning environment for their ELL students. Teachers will leave with actionable tools and strategies that promote language acquisition, engagement, and content understanding.

This session is designed specifically for Music teachers to utilize Marzano’s instructional strategies in the classroom. We will explore different strategies to meet our curriculum learning targets. Come ready to sing & play.

Teachers will participate in example lessons that meet both music and ELA standards. The purpose of this session is to show the ability for music class to be a support for general classroom teachers while also teaching our own content. _x000D_Teachers will participate in music based lessons that also hit ELA standards. Frequently, what's lacking is the background knowledge necessary to establish meaningful connections to the material. Visual art serves as a universal language that students of all reading abilities can access to not efficiently build background knowledge but also spark inquiry for further learning. This workshop aims to equip teachers with the ability to confidently engage students in looking, thinking and talking about art for various instructional purposes in a manner that is both differentiated and engaging.

Teaching students to collaborate while engaging in the art-making process as well as creating artwork that is meaningful and purposeful. Although this session is targeted for elementary art teachers, any staff is welcome to learn more about teaching students to work in a collaborative artistic environment. Have students engage collaboratively in creative art-making in response to an artistic problem as well as set goals and create artwork that is meaningful and has purpose to the makers.

This course offers specific strategies and information to assist educators who support students with special educational needs. It will look more closely at students within a self-contained setting, such as SLC, but will include special needs students within the general education setting in the area of music education.

Developed by the SMSD Student Chamber of Commerce, this professional development session offers educators the opportunity to engage PK-8 students through student-led entrepreneurial activities. Participants will learn to integrate innovative projects that foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and leadership skills while building partnerships with high school students. By the end of the session, educators will be equipped with strategies to create inclusive learning environments, promote confidence and resilience, and implement tech-enabled approaches for collaboration in the classroom.

We will take a look at how to start collaborative conversations between classroom teachers and special education teachers to ensure all students are getting what they need in the classroom. We will talk about accommodations, paraeducator resources, and the role of SPED case managers in the PLC process.

By the end of the session, educators will have a better understanding as to how to better meet the needs of Special Education students in their classrooms.
